Synthesis

Finally classes are over and the waiting begins, waiting for grades, that is. Now that I don't have anything else to do and while summer classes haven't started, I'll be working on my coding skills and design sense.

Currently, I'm in the process of melding together all the different stuff I'm working with. In a few days, I'll be finished designing the my personal site to include several projects like Greycore, Version5 blog and some other stuff. After that, it'll be a waiting game for Drupal 4.6 (my content management of choice) I haven't decided if I'll be porting my blog from Blogger to Drupal or what, but we'll see. I also need to decide whether I'll be using Flickr or my site to store pictures.

I really haven't decided. There are lots of things to do.

Yahoo thing

I think the short EPIC 2014 is just about to become history. (note: read entry before this... or watch it) I think it should now also include Yahoo! into the list.

Today I discovered Yahoo! 360 (through an email from Philweavers), its a beta service of Yahoo for the social networking thing. Its basically a bio page of you with a blog, messenger, photos and stuff. [Now I know why Yahoo bought Flickr, I was hoping it was Google] Check it out here and here for more; and by the way, if you got invites, maybe you can spare me one?

The Google Effect

Today I came across this "new Feature" of Gmail, and its goes...
G is for growth
Storage is an important part of email, but that doesn't mean you should have to worry about it. To celebrate our one-year birthday, we're giving everyone one more gigabyte. But why stop the party there? Our plan is to continue growing your storage beyond 2GBs by giving you more space as we are able. We know that email will only become more important in people's lives, and we want Gmail to keep up with our users and their needs. From Gmail, you can expect more.

Amazing isn't it? by the way, its Gmail's birthday today. Happy Birthday Gmail!

On another note, I saw this neat Flash movie about how Google will conquer the world and make us idiots. I saw this just a couple of days ago, and I hope I'm not the last person in this world to see it. Anyway, here's the short flick entitled EPIC 2014. (WARNING - high speed broadband is a good thing) What's EPIC you ask? Just watch it. (note: maybe its me but it was cool)

Snaps [testing...]

Nothing. I was just testing my photoblogging template. Nice, huh?

Simple photoblogging

Hey did you know that you can make a photo album of sorts using Blogger and Hello (software from Picasa) which automates everything from uploading to a picture to publishing it to your photoblog-album?

I don't know if this is a novel idea but I started playing around with it until I made a template to make things really simple. It uses div tags to create floating boxes with a nifty mouseover effect. Anyway, here's a tutorial and the code.

First Project

Here's what I'm talking about. I'm not sure if it looks really nice but I'm satisfied, after all, it is my first try.

Project Greycore

This is the actual layout of my latest project. I think I'll have to change some things though but mostly it will stay white and grey.

Don't ask why its called "Project Greycore", because I also don't know. Actually its one of those things that pop into your head when you're trying to sleep. I also think it sounds cool. Well, the first design proposal of Project Greycore is a mecha-inspired design theme, and that was supposedly the layout, but I changed my mind. I'll try to post it because I also think its cool. It;s the first time I've done anything like that since I'm more of the minimalist type. Posted by Hello

Nearly finished

Only less than a week to go and school's over and I'm finished. Yes, it's both good and bad.

There's more to look forward in the weeks to come though. I'll be starting something called Project Greycore where I'll post alot of what I know about design and maybe a little code (I'm more an artist than a coder) I was also thinking if I can make it my portfolio too. Also, I'll finally get to work on my little project, that is, a technology blog named pinoytechie. The idea remains the same, its an IT blog that would cater to the Philippine setting. I've had a hard time finding time for this, but maybe things will work out this break. Frankly, I think I really need help on this because I can this thing sucking up all my time. Then again, the hardest part is usually the first part.

An a lighter note, I think I'm getting fat. Seriously (especially for thos who know me personally) I've been thinking that maybe I'm the opposite of those binge eaters who grow alot when push comes to shove. Well, that's all. I promise I'll try to keep this really up to date this "vacation"

Summer enlistment

The CRS has opened ahead of time for summer enlistment. I have already planned to take Math 54 during summer (that is, I pray that I pass 53) together with PE (since I don't have one this semester) Right now, I'm leaning towards softball, but I must say that I would like to try something new [and adventurous] - Camping.

We'll see what I come up with by week's end. By the way, enlistment for Summer 2004-2005 ends on April 1, 2005 (no kidding)

Farewell

When I hear of crimes happening in UP, I usually shrug my shoulder and mutter, "What's new?" Today, things [and circumstances] are different. To the informed, you may well know what I mean.

When the victim is not anyone you know, see or have talked to; there is not much care that you can give. When the victim is not a classmate, not once a groupmate; there is not much to relate to. But when he is, suddenly you know. Suddenly you you realize the life lost. You become aware.

May you find peace and may we offer our prayers. For in that sleep, what dreams may come. Goodbye Mr. Mendoza.

Hell on Earth

Get ready...

Tomorrow starts what is to be what we would want to fondly call "hell week". So, please give me your indulgence, patience and understanding if in the next few days, I would seem detached from reality. This means, refrain from being a jerk (do not bother me unnecesarily, hehehe , JOKE)

New look

Welcome to the fifth revision of my blog.

Finally

The math midterms is over. Well, it was better than expected and I hope that I will get a satisfactory result.

I need to get this and I've done all I could. Now, what I can do is simply wait...

Annyeong-hi gaseyo

Today, I can say, is one of the saddest days so far since the start of this new year. Maybe it was the Math test this morning, or the boring Biology class. No. It was obviously more than that.

Today, I felt how to lose people I cared for and loved like family. My new friends left for Korea after their one-month vacation here.

When they arrived, I really didn't care much because, as many out there may know, I'm not very friendly. However, somehow, things changed. I came to like them, and even love them.

We did a lot of things while we were together, even things I never thought of doing! From playing football with varsity players at the Sunken Garden of UP (we lost 3-2) to roaming around Makati "Amazing Race"-style; they filled the child that is within me. I felt like a big brother to them (I'm older than any of them but one) And they treated me as one of them. We played cards, PS2 and a little PC games at night, not knowing I had an exam or report the next day. We went to a lot of places like The University of the Philippines - Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University, Fort Santiago, Rizal Park (see picture) and Makati (Glorietta, Greenbelt and a lot more) just to name a few.

Now that they are gone, I realize the opportunity missed. It was only in the last few days that we really bonded. It never hit me that I would really miss them. Now I do...

Goodbye Kevin, Oliver, John, Eric, Tony, Lyn, Linda, Sue, Lucy and their Mr Paul.

Things to buy/get/receive this year

A new year means new hopes and new dreams, in addition to those from years past. This is my goal record, things to buy and stuff to get for this year, coming from all fronts and in order of priority...
  1. get higher grades (at least higher than a 1.55 GWA) and of course pass
  2. pass Math 53, 54 and 55 all within this year
  3. Sony PSP and an iPod U2 Edition
  4. get a broadband internet connection (almost there)
  5. Finish all Metal Gear Solid games (MGS1 or MGS:TTW, MGS2:SOL, MGS3:SE and MG:Acid for PSP)
  6. make new friends (i have made 8 new friends but gained 3 new nuisances)
  7. build an AMD dual-core rig with SLI (from 2005-06)
  8. get my little project going
  9. learn XML, Apache and Professional PHP
  10. look better (hehehe)

By the way, just to satify someone out there who begs to be mentioned on this blog, here goes (and in bold)
.::..:.:::Rhonda:::..:.::.
There, satisfied? It may not have any context or at least a story or some good reason, but at least you got what you've been nagging for.

Metal Gear Solid

There are things that I like. There are things I like a lot that it takes some time to fade. There are things I like so much; I think it will never wane.

An example of the first is food. I like to try out new foodstuff once in a while. After 10 dinners though, it seems like ordinary, no longer new. For the second, a good one would be "Slam Dunk" That is the Japanese anime about basketball. I was really hooked to it especially during the summer of two years past. In fact, up until now, I'm not sure it really belongs to the second rather than the third. The best example for the third is my love for technology and anything on the frontiers of science. My love for tech has been so pervasive that even though I'm no Computer Science Major, I think I have what it takes to talk technical with these guys anytime, sans some programming.

Right now, there is something that has been keeping my excitement in check. MGS. I liked the second incarnation and now, the third made it permanent. It has gained a special place in my heart like Final Fantasy X (my first RPG on PS2) and Gran Turismo. The Metal Gear Solid Trilogy has a story no other game can match, graphics and sound that is hard to beat and of course, gameplay that makes it immersive and even surreal. So, where does this stand in my simple groupings? I don’t know, yet.

What I'm about to say may make things a little more clear. I have not played the first in the trilogy. Because of that, I'm currently thinking/planning of getting a Nintendo Gamecube. Why? This year, or 2004 shall I say, Konami released a faithful remake of the original MGS in the form of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. In fact, it is said to be so faithful that even enemy placements and AI is preserved, together of course with the boss battles. All of these wrapped into a better looking MGS2 graphic details. Is this an obsession? NO. It's more than that...

the end

Like the looming closure of that certain show that seemingly everybody in the Philippines watches, I think something is also over in my life.

Yes, it is. I have lost the spark that was so warming. It is over.

Happy New Year

Yeah! 2005 starts NOW!
